I encouraged Derek to be involved in a coaching project that I was running, and he excelled in a head coaches role working with children from 6 to 18 years of age. This input has added strength to the Curzon structure and success has been achieved with the under 18 team progressing into the FA youth final.

Derek’s primary duty was with our first team which, during his stewardship, gained two promotions, reached several cup finals, reached the semi-final of a national competition and had a long run in the FA Cup. During the FA Cup run we faced three full time professional clubs winning the first two games and being narrowly beaten in the third. The fact that our opponents were astounded that a team of part-timers could be so organised and display fitness levels on a par with theirs is a great testament to Derek’s coaching abilities both in terms of skills and fitness. Our club now successfully runs twenty four teams covering all age groups both male and female and Derek’s advice and guidance has been invaluable in structuring a cohesive development plan not only for our players but for the thirty coaches we have looking after the teams.
